Jim Corman
Founder, Chief Executive Officer
Jim Corman has been a business executive for his entire 33-year professional career. Corman started his career in 1974 in a family owned, independent (non Bell) local telephone company named Southland Telephone. There, he created three separate non-regulated subsidiaries addressing the long distance, cellular, and long haul fiber markets. He served as the initial President of all three subsidiaries and was later named President of the holding company (Southland Communications). After Southland was merged into TelecomUSA (NYSE) in 1987, Corman served as Senior Vice President of Operations.
Corman resigned his position in TelecomUSA In 1989 (now part of MCI) and started a new long distance company called Touch 1. Touch 1 grew from a startup with 4 employees to 2.5 million active customers and 1,800 employees by 1998. Touch 1 was sold in 2000 to Z-Tel (a publicly traded local and long distance company). Corman resigned his position as President of the Consumer Division of Z-Tel in 2003.
Since 2003, Corman has served as a management consultant and as Project Manager for 1000-acre multi-purpose real estate development in his hometown of Atmore, Alabama and has served as an investor and board member of several other startup companies. In addition to his current position with Ramp, Corman has holds the position of Professor of Entrepreneurship in the School of Business for Auburn University.
